Over his career Luke Morley has been a song writing machine. His consistent writing exploits with British band Thunder have helped carve out some of the UK’s best loved rock music since their debut album ‘Backstreet Symphony’ back in 1990. Produced by Duran Duran and Powerstation guitarist Andy Taylor it spawned songs such as ‘Dirty Love’, ‘She’s So Fine’ and the anthemic ‘Love Walks In’, some of which remain in the Thunder set even to this day.
With the release of ‘Dopamine’, the band’s fourteenth studio works and an album that hit the number one spot, Morley continued to keep his finger on the pulse, creating memorable songs that pushed the boundaries of the band. When we interviewed singer Danny Bowes a couple of years ago he commented on the fact that ever time Luke brings new tracks into the studio he leaves everyone amazed.
Add into that an excellent three album side project called The Union, with ex-Winterville vocalist Pete Shoulder, two albums with Danny Bowes (Bowes & Morley) and a 2001 solo album called ‘El Gringo Retro’ and its plain to see that creating music is in his blood.
The Brighton-based musician has now set his solo bar even higher with the release of ‘Songs from the Blue Room’. It’s an album Morley found he had some time to work on while Bowes recovers from a head injury, but what he didn’t expect was the reaction the album would have on the world. #1 Indie Breaker Album, #2 Official Record Store Chart, #3 Americana Album, #5 Independent Albums and #11 Physical Album Sales Chart have led to Luke rethinking this as just a stop gap and seriously consider taking this out on the road.
We caught up to chat to Luke about the album and it’s creation, as well Thunder and The Union amongst other things…
