BLINDSTONE unveils new lyric video & digital single “Drums Of War”

Drums Of War may very well be the heaviest and darkest song of the new BLINDSTONE album, “Scars To Remember”. It is obvious what the new single from the Danish blues rock power trio is about, and why it was written. Martin wrote the music for the song, right around the time the war in Ukraine broke out, and the lyrics were written, in collaboration with Peter Svensson (Gauntlet Rule, Assassin’s Blade) shortly after.

It is a song about how ordinary people may experience the threat of war against their country, and the fears and insecurities that present themselves, when the war becomes reality”, Martin says.

Apart from Blindstone themselves, the song also features Xenius Jepsen Andersen, Martin’s youngest son, on additional drums.

“Drums Of War” is out now in digital single and lyric video formats.

Blindstone is proud to announce the new album ”Scars To Remember”. After being the best-kept secret within the heavy side of blues rock, as part of the “closed” blues scene for two decades, the band is now moving to Mighty Music and finally getting the recognition they deserve.

”Scars To Remember” is the tenth album from the Danish-based blues power trio, which has its stylistic roots in the late ’60s and ’70s, with inspiration from bands/artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and others.

Formed more than two decades ago and having played countless shows in those years, Blindstone hit it hard in the US, due to their sound, and released most of their albums on the American label Grooveyard Records. Despite the long run, the band saw a turning point in their career when, in 2020, they were hired as the backing band for the blues legend Walter Trout, for a series of successful concerts around Denmark. This experience was a factor in inspiring the band to seek a slightly more direct and basic stylistic approach on their new album. The blues influence is particularly obvious in songs such as ”Down For The Count”, ”Waste Your Time” and ”World Weary Blues”.

Blindstone has always worn its influences on its sleeves, and “Scars To Remember” does indeed contain obvious tips of the hat to influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Trout, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Gales, Jeff Healey, and others.

As always with Blindstone, Andersen’s guitar work is a focal point, as is the tight ensemble playing of the band – for example, the instrumental ”The Fields Of Bethel” comes to mind – but the band’s lyrical universe has reached new levels of seriousness and depth in the band’s new collaboration with Swedish lyricist Peter Svensson, who contributed lyrics to a large part of the album. The major concerns of recent years, with a global pandemic and war in Europe, have led the band’s lyrics in a more serious, soul-searching direction, as illustrated by songs like ”A Scar To Remember”, ”Drums Of War” and ”Drifting Away”. In other words, there are no stripper poles, hot-rodded cars, or silver dollar coins to be found in the lyrics, this time around.

”Scars To Remember” is a strong entry in Blindstone’s extensive discography, and should appeal to fans of the band’s previous releases, the aforementioned artists, and fans of heavy, blues-based rock in general.

“Scars To Remember” will be released on CD and digital formats via Mighty Music on August 11th, 2023.
