LIVE REVIEW: LA Dispute at Magnet House, Perth

MAGNET HOUSE, PERTH - 25th August 2023

LA Dispute

It’s Tommy Gallagher back again with another review here for The Rockpit. My apologies on this review as I had a 12-hour shift this day and I got to the gig after the first band had concluded.

I managed to catch most of Blind Girls set and what the hell is this? This madness and unrelenting assault from this band was something to behold. I was very impressed with the fire and passion they showed – they absolutely tore it up. The lead vocalist has some pipes on her, she matched her band’s enthusiasm to a T – her vocals were brutal as hell, in a good way, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few glasses behind the bar shattered from how loud and wild her voice was. Yowza!

Blind Girls

LA Dispute hit the stage to a resounding ovation, for a band I have never listened to before, this reminded me of my Taste of Chaos days when I had hair and leftover teenage angst in my early twenties. The crowd sang along in unison as they celebrated with them for their 10 year (technically twelve) anniversary of their album ‘Wildlife’.

LA Dispute

You’ve got to love a band that reminds you of Xtreme Sports, Tony Hawks Pro Skater, with sounds that remind you of a more innocent time in your life. Do I know any of these songs? No. But, it’s a sound that brings you back to a past time in your life. I guess I was so busy listening to The Used, Rise Against, Alexisonfire that I missed out on the poetry of LA Dispute.

LA Dispute

The fans vibed so much with this, love was in the air. LA Dispute would have been stoked at the reception they were given. The vocalist Jordan Dreyer at times reminded me a tad of Zach De La Rocha from RATM – at times he slightly rapped around during the set, he’s a story teller and conveys emotion with every single second he’s vocalizing. The atmosphere was electric, the night was fun, and LA Dispute were beloved!
