I first saw INXS live back in 1986 on their 9th ever UK date when they played Rock City in Nottingham (it still counts one of my biggest musical regrets as being too ill to see them support Queen at Wembley that year). A year later I caught them in Sheffield, and then in 1988 at the iconic Leicester De Montfort Hall. By U.K. standards I got in early, well at least before they hit the Arenas with ‘Kick’ in 1990. I saw them again in the U.K. in 1997 before Micheal left us in December that year. I’ve seen them with Terence Trent D’Arcy and Russell Hitchcock at the Olympic Stadium, and with Jon Stevens and Suzi DeMarchi and with J.D. Fortune – at the bands last ever show in Perth in 2012.
I’ve seen a dozen tribute bands over the years and most of them pretty good but few nail the vibe of the band like The Australian INXS show. Musically they are spot on and Del not only looks remarkably like Hutchence, he also sounds like him and has the moves down-pat too. The set list is great too, with every song featuring a custom made video by the band. As their jumping off point they run with the idea of what a set by a 2023 version of the band would look like and it’s a treat to behold. At the Rosemount tonight the crowd loves it. And you will too. If you only see one cover band this year – this has to be the one!
