Sizzling, lively, uplifting Melodic Rock that simply soars into the air before your very ears…
If you love the keys of players like Greg Giuffria then I hear an echo of his style in Ged Rylands’ keys on opening track ‘Rage of Angels’ but there’s none of any of previous bands restraint here – make no mistake Rage of Angels is here to Rock with guitars to the fore, keys high in the mix and a relentless drive that takes your breath away.
After that initial outpouring and bluster comes the rather refined rocker ‘All Your Own Way’ which charts the other end of Ged Rylands’ musical palette for this second Rage of Angels album. ‘The Devil’s New Tricks’ keeps that thought and is such an uplifting song it goes straight to the head, the melody almost drifting at points into the silky smoothness of the classier side of AOR with a little blues.
Elsewhere it’s heartening to hear that ‘filler’ is far, far from your ears (probably on someone else’s album) – every song here is worthy and like with all the best Melodic Rock offerings it’s hard on repeated plays to skip a track.
With vocals courtesy of Rob Moratti (ex-SAGA) and guitars by the trio of Neil Fraser (Ex-Ten); Chris Green (Tyketto); and Martin Kronlund (Gypsy Rose) along with the solid backline of our good friends Coldspell in Perra Johannsen (Drums) and Chris Goldsmith (Bass) – Rage of Angels sounds like a band you want to see live as these songs seem like they could be even grander in a room with the volume pumped and fists held high.
Favorites as I said are hard to call here but aside from all the great rockers one song really stands out for us – ‘I Feel it in My Heart’ is the sort of sweeping ballad you don’t hear equaled too often.
