There’s a lot of hype around this band and the big question is to what extent is it deserved? The answer is easy – this album is huge. From the opening organ and swagger of ‘Until I die’ to the last strains of ‘Wake’ lovers of groove-laden vintage hard rock will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of catching these guys live.
After the slow burn of the opener has dissipated ‘Breakaway’ grabs you by the throat with its incessant riff and huge melody; it doesn’t stand alone either ‘High Flying Gypsy’ bursts forth with menace, and is all laid back cool and ‘Holy Water’ simply simmers over a bluesy flame.
The deeper you get the more you realise how solid these guys are: ‘Warning’ adds Metal to mix and ‘Bleed For You’ adds a gentler vibe that builds to a roar; both are great songs while ‘Girl Got a Gun’ takes you to moodier darker end of town like vintage Thunder.
With no room to pull over ‘You’re Mine’ delivers a fine bluesy hard rock stomp before ‘You’re Mine’ before ‘Inglorious’ takes a more modern approach, lays on the harmonies thick and smolders eloquently.
The album rounds out with two equally fine tracks ‘Unaware’ builds from beautiful keys to a biting riff and some wailing guitar and a searching melodic vocal before closer ‘Wake’ again brings the acoustic to the fore and develops into a beautiful emotionally-charged ballad.
On an album that pulls no punches Inglorious manage to capture the essence of great 70’s and 80’s Melodic Hard Rock but take it into the new millennium, Sure you’ve heard it all before but rarely so good so soon. Great vocals, great guitar, solid backline: definitely a band to look out for and add to the ‘must buy’ list.
