It’s a long way from Memphis to Chicago but we are sure glad that Charlie made that trip back in 1962 when the music world was on the verge of change. Rubbing shoulders with Chicago’s finest kickstarted a career that now sees Charlie at the age of 80 in his 7th decade as a musician. Tonight saw Charlie hit the Astor stage in Perth to put on a show for the ages including wonderfully rendered Blues staples as well as some of the biggest tracks from his own repertoire, starting with cuts from his 1962 debut.
A hugely appreciative audience were regaled with tales of Muddy and a host of wonderful asides. And man that band they sure know how to wail! Comprised of Kid Andersen on Guitar, June Core on Drums and Randy Bermudes on Bass, Charlie has some serious players behind him. The night of course belonged to Charlie and his incredible harp and enigmatic vocal. If you are in Adelaide on 28th be sure to get down to the final show of the tour it’s a Blues lovers delight!
