INTERVIEW: Mike Stern – Solo Artist (Ex-Canned Heat, Miles Davis)

Mike Stern is one of the great jazz guitarists of his generation, and it has been said that he “has the unique ability to play with the finesse and lyricism of Jim Hall, the driving swing of Wes Montgomery and the turbulent, overdriven attack of Jimi Hendrix.” Stern grew up loving those greats and grew up on the Blues of  Albert and B.B. King.

He’s had a career most would dream about – playing with Miles Davis, Billy Cobham, the Brecker Brothers, Jaco Pastorius, Steps Ahead, David Sanborn, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Joe Henderson and the all-star Four Generations of Miles band. The great news is that he’s coming Downunder to play with us.

Mark caught up with Mike to chat all about his history, Canned Heat, Miles Davis, wat Jazz means to him, the challenges of adjusting his laying style after his accident and one of my favourite answers ever of the meaning of life…
