Kim Salmon’s new outfit SMOKED SALMON have released the third single and video from their forthcoming debut album, and label Cheersquad Records & Tapes have opened pre-sales for the self-titled album, which is out February 28.
New single “Hey Hey Narcissus” sees band member Claire Birchall taking over lead vocals, and follows the previous single “Hell in a Handbasket” which debuted at #2 on the AIR singles chart in December, and “How did They Ever Manage” which debuted at #1 in September.
Backseat Mafia says of the new single and video: “It’s a sinuous, slinky smooth track that’s as enchanting as the call of the sirens to a mast-strapped Odysseus. There is a sort of sixties backbeat blush to the track that’s all miniskirt, eyeliner and beehives and it weaves in and out of the ears and mesmerises like a snake charmer’s pet.
“The track comes complete with a video that is just as transfixing with its close-up of Birchall singing interspersed with Dali-esque shots of salmon-headed performers in a surreal montage. Someone is on something chemical and unnatural and it’s a positive delight…”

Following the February 28 release of their forthcoming album, Smoked Salmon will undertake a national tour. As per dates below, the tour will span March and the first 2 weeks of April and will take in Perth, Freo, Margaret River, Castlemaine, Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle, Geelong, Brisbane, Gold coast, Bangalow and Adelaide before finishing back in Melbourne.
SMOKED SALMON is the latest project for the Scientists/Beasts of Bourbon/Beasts co-founder member and internationally revered avant-garde artrocker Kim Salmon.
