West Thebarton to release debut album, announce single and tour dates

West Thebarton

Sweet, patient friends. The time is nigh! West Thebarton are thrilled to announce plans to release their long awaited debut LP on May 18. Yep, they’ll be tearing ‘round the nation throughout June too. Can’t wait? We hear ya. Luckily, they’ve let one more banger outta the box in the meantime to keep us from pounding down their door…

Premiering on triple j’s Good Night’s last night, Stuck On You is the third single to be lifted from West Thebarton’s forthcoming debut, Different Beings Being Different. May we suggest you stop everything and check it out, pronto.

Straight outta the mean streets of Adelaide, West Thebarton have been teetering on the precipice of greatness for some time. In 2016, the band forged themselves into our consciousness with their self titled EP, support slots with the likes of Bad//Dreems, Cloud Nothings and King Gizz, plus appearances at BIGSOUND and Groovin’ The Moo.

Reluctant to take their foot off the gas, the band tore right into 2017 adding new drummer Caitlin Thomas to the fray, and releasing their deeply relatable single ‘Moving Out’. ‘Well-received’ might be a bit of an understatement as the track enjoyed a solid thrashing on national radio, well and truly catching the attention of industry bigwigs and new fans the nation over. An ensuing industry scuffle landed them a management deal with Fidelity Corp (Karnivool, Thelma Plum), and shortly after, self proclaimed super-fan James Tidswell of Violent Soho signed them to his new label, Domestic La La.

Backing things up with the release of equally-adored ‘Bible Camp’, Thebbies capped off their bumper year with a neat run alongside Polish Club, blistering sets at the Falls Festivals and The AU Review’s ‘Rock Artist of the Year’ Award. Phew! Nothing left to do except get that album out, right? Right indeed…

Committed to tape over just one week, between day jobs, West Thebarton’s debut album Different Beings Being Different was recorded with Dylan Adams (DMA’s, The Vines); tracked at Twin Earth Studios in Adelaide’s southwest, and mixed at Adams’ own studio in Coogee, NSW. Greg Calbi then mastered the record at Sterling Sound Studios in New York City.

Frontman Reverend Ray describes the the new LP as “real Aussie straight-from-the-gut rock. I wanted the record to be fucking grandiose, like INXS or Midnight Oil, but not try and be a pub rock cliche.” Right on! We want that too, Rev! The crisp tones painted all over this ripper of a record lend it an instantly nostalgic quality, while still sounding fresh and youthful as hell. The whole thing smacks of sweaty summers spent in suburban backyards with pals. Drink to it, talk about it, laugh with it. It’s a meaningful, fuzzy maelstrom of four-guitar, brazen rock, and its available to pre-order now on vinyl, CD and digital via 24 Hundred, JB Hi-Fi Online and iTunes.

Oh and did we mention they’re taking this show on the road? It’s true! West Thebarton will be bringing their gritty, soul-filled rock’n’roll party to a town near you in June, supported by triple j. These will be their only headline shows before skipping across the pond to play *ahem* Reading & Leeds Festival.
