ALBUM REVIEW: Killer Bee – Eye in the Sky

Mighty Music - October 14th 2017

Killer Bee is a Swedish-Canadian hard rocking band formed in the early 1990s by songwriters Anders ‘LA’ Rönnblom and Brian ‘Bee’ Frank. After a number of years in hibernation from 1997 to 2011 the band reformed releasing 6 albums (including this one) to add to the 3 original 90’s outings. Now with so many releases and such a long history you might be wondering like we were why they have been off the radar, and after listening to them it’s even more inexplicable.

EYE IN THE SKY is a damned fine album. Indeed this is great European Hard Rock, at times driving like on the title track and SHOUT IT OUT, there’s plenty of guitar and some great distinctive vocals from Brian ‘Bee’ Frank. They even do the slow stuff well, with the obligatory ballad ONE STEP CLOSER making a trio of early highlights.

The classic rock  organ of HIGHER AND HIGHER hits another home run, and whilst FACE THE NIGHT is a little perfunctory it’s the next track  THE FLIGHT with its epic Zeppelin-like flourish and stylings that might make some listeners a little watery-eyed.

Elsewhere GET ON BOARD gets the fists pumping again, JOYSTICK WRRIOR has a nice Metallic edge and RIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES  even lays on a little sleazy rock and roll. Final track BY MY SIDE closes in style with a great slow build to a rousing conclusion.

This is a nice slab of Classic Rock infused European Hard Rock that is sure to hit the right note with fans.
