Triplet sister rockers She Wolf have released their debut album “The Other Side” and should be pretty pleased with the efforts of their hard work and with the variety of rock tracks on offer. The 21-year old Vlahos triplets have put out a 10-track release, with a bit of something for everyone to enjoy.
The album launches us headlong into Just Pretend with guitars & drums kicking it all off before vocalist Serena Vlahos introduces herself to the listeners with her gritty vocals. The first thing you notice is the girls excellent harmonising backing vocals, which is evident on almost every track. On The Run is another punchy song, which gets the foot tapping in the opening seconds. It all slows down with one of my favourites on the album, the haunting title track The Other Side, with an almost Cranberries feel to it. Want You Anyway opens with bass line drums again with catchy chorus, which would surely be a live crowd favourite. With influences from the likes of The Runaways, Heart & Joan Jett, the girls have certainly found inspiration from rock acts that can not only perform live but know how to captivate an audience.
Cassandra’s ripping guitar intro opens up Love Train, and once again we have another catchy memorable tune that has you singing the chorus to yourself long after the track has finished. The girls had two different bass players over the course of the recording of the album, and it’s a thumping bass riff that kicks off Chameleon, which again gets you tapping your hands on the steering wheel as your driving down the freeway. Don’t Need You Tonight has Nikki laying down a fist pumping beat throughout this one, with the harmonies in full flow, before Cassandra launches into her solo. Circles fools us a bit with a slower intro, before once again, the girls almost trademark beat and catchy song writing skills come to the fore. One Last Kiss hits us full on with guitar riffs aplenty before another memorable chorus. We conclude the album with Won’t Even Miss Me, which is one of the quicker tracks on the album.
All in all a decent debut for such a young band, and although there are a few minor things which could have been tightened up in the studio, there are some fantastic memorable tracks, which showcase the girl’s song writing & musical talents.
