Acclaimed TV director Larysa Kondracki and Melbourne band Ute Root team up for ‘Ketamine Queen’ video

Ute Root

When Hollywood meets Collingwood

What do you get when you cross renowned Canadian film and television director, Larysa Kondracki; the rising star of the recent Picnic at Hanging Rock remake, Lily Sullivan; a bunch of costumed freaks, sexy Collingwood hangout, Feefee’s Bar and Melbourne band UTE ROOT? Find out for yourself with the brand new UTE ROOT film clip, Ketamine Queen.

The Melbourne suburb of Fawkner doesn’t instantly spring to mind as a hotbed of rock ‘n’ roll action, but that sleepy Northern borough, previously the exclusive habitat of aging Nonas, hotted-up Monaros and clandestine meth labs is also the home to UTE ROOT, a trio of agitators, making all sorts of exciting loud noise on the local musical skyline.

KETAMINE QUEEN was recorded at Head Gap Studios in Preston, mixed and mastered by Casey Rice

Formed in late 2016 with minimal ambition other than pure tongue in cheek joy, UTE ROOT – featuring Beth Barker on bass and vocals, Matty Barker on guitar and Kate Alexander on drums – reflect the suburban malaise that abounds as the once inner city enclaves of creativity spread slowly, but surely, toward the outer reaches of the urban sprawl. Playing their first ever gig live to air on Melbourne’s iconic 3RRR, UTE ROOT have developed somewhat of a cult following via adrenalised live performances that present the band’s vital reduction of stoner punk rock riffery, raw physicality and healthy dose of self-deprecation.

Within 18 months of their radio debut, the trio recorded their debut EP in Tokyo, toured Japan as well as playing club shows in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Committed to seeing out 2018 in Melbourne to write and record their first full length album, the band are preparing to launch their first self released 7” vinyl single, KETAMINE QUEEN with a bunch of shows over the next few months, culminating in a Vinyl Launch at The Old Bar on Friday 21st September and an appearance at River Rocks Festival in November.

Upcoming UTE ROOT shows:

August 17: Cherry Bar w/ Redro Rodriguez and his Inner Demons, Stiff Richards
August 24: Old Bar w/ Mesa Cosa, Pistol Peaches
August 25: The Eastern Ballarat w/ Hideous Sun Demon
Sept 21: Old Bar KQ 7” VINYL LAUNCH!
Nov 17: River Rocks Festival Geelong – SOLD OUT!
