Trivium continued their wildly successful The Sin and The Sentence World Tour in St. Paul, Minnesota on Monday night with an explosive set of old and new tracks. Joining the Florida metallers were special guests Avatar and Light the Torch.
If you like your music heavy, this is a great triple bit. Newcomers Light The Torch opened the show. I was taken with their energy and how happy they were to be there. You could tell they were a newer hungry band feeding off the crowd. The great thing about shows like this is the fans come early and support all the bands. That is something that makes the show so much better. Two of the highlight songs for me were “The Bitter End” and “Die Alone”, both strong songs.
Second in line was Avatar. This is a band who hales Gothenburg, Sweden. I’ve watched them grow from the very start and it’s been exciting to see. There’s no doubt that the next time they come back to the Twin Cities area, they will be the headliners. There are so many wonderful things to say about this band because they are just so incredibly committed and seem to really get it. They mix theatrics with music. Just wait til they start to use pyro! Avatar puts on an excellent show, they dress up for the event with a theme throughout. Even down to the merch guy selling T-shirts and the roadies.
They played about 60 a minute set and did several of the fan favorites including “A Statue of the King” and my favorite, “Smells Like a Freak Show”. They are thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end. If you like heavy music I don’t know how you can’t love Avatar.
Trivium is another incredible band in this genre of music. This is the third time I’ve seen them live and every time they bring it. They have really hard-core fans who love this band. Their songs are very creative and melodic. They opened up with “Betrayer” and went through a 75 minute set that included “Beyond Oblivion”, “The Sin and the Sentence” and “Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr”. Musically they are outstanding and full of energy. This is a great triple bill for a rock fan!
