Echo Del Tusker, one of the hottest bands out of the Eastern States right now, made their WA debut at the weekend when they supported veteran rockers Rose Tattoo at The Ravenswood Hotel. With all four members having played in other successful Melbourne based projects in the past, it was no surprise that they took on the Tatts crowd head on and impressed from the start. From the off, former Tequila Mockingbyrd lead vocalist Estelle Artois teased & encouraged the crowd to their feet, to come join them down the front. Guitarist Brendan Forward, who previously played with Aussie rockers Massive, was in excellent form with ripping solos and classic rock riffs throughout, complimented fantastically by Mick Quee (Bass) & Josh Potter (Drums). In Artois they have a real powerhouse of a singer and tonight she didn’t disappoint, hitting all the notes she had to and more – and she’s not too shabby with a guitar in hand either.
They immediately set to work on winning the audience over with their catchy upbeat set of originals & covers, which opened with their first single CAN’T KEEP YOUR MAN. More well-written original tracks in the form of HUMAN FILTRATION, ENDLESS, COLOUR OF LOVE and THE RIVER followed, as the band showed that with this amount of strong material there will surely be an EP or album release in 2019. Another EDT track THE WORLD IS YOURS was sandwiched between the only two covers this evening which were FIRE and a fantastic rendition of Led Zep’s HEARTBREAKER. TO DARE IS TO DO preceded the final track of the night, their explosive new single FIX YOUR FACE, which was released the same day and closed this tight & polished set.
Judging by the reaction of the crowd, Echo Del Tusker can be extremely pleased with their nights work. Considering this was only their 3rd live performance since forming, I’d be keeping an eye out for these guys, because if this is just a taster of what they have up their sleeve, we could be about to watch something a little bit special start to grow in front of our eyes. Live performances are not just about the content & quality of the set, which were in abundance here tonight but also seeing a band enjoying what they are doing – Echo Del Tusker certainly look like they are doing just that.
