The beauty of music is that sometimes you give an album a few spins and you’re not quite sure what to say, you know there’s something there but the music is either out of your usual listening or maybe there’s just something you can’t quite put your finger on it.
I can’t tell you how long Ive had this record for review because it’s been a car dweller – that rare album that lives in the glove box and won’t let you take it out,even though the press release that came with it has long since disappeared.
So first things first this album is definitely a grower – an album of gentle blues, an album made for the right mood. An album to draft away with and to return to.
A great voice and great songs is a decent staring point for anyone, but add a great band and plenty of variety and you’re onto a winner. ‘
Elsewhere the title track ‘Blink’ packs a bluesy, rock punch that you can even dance to; and closer ‘
‘ lets the keys and vocal run riot. It’s all very nice indeed and well worth a listen if you love it a little mellower.
