Sevendust have been trekking across Australia this past week as part of their tour supporting the latest album “All I See Is War” and it all ended in Perth on Tuesday night. Steve Monaghan reports in.

Tonight was the final show of the Australia/ New Zealand Sevendust tour and Perth brought the noise and everything else in between. Now upon arriving it was very evident that a sizeable crowd was already starting to gather, the room was buzzing with excitement and I was fortunate enough to take prime position along the front barricade just in time for the start of tour support band, Sydney rockers Redhook.

Now this was my first time seeing these guys and I wasn’t disappointed in the the slightest, Front woman Emmy Mack was simply awesome up front bounding around the stage,  the band as a whole were very cohesive  and looked like they were having the time of there lives running through a solid set of songs that got people up and moving, Certainly while not break neck heavy, highly enjoyable nonetheless and worth checking out when you have a chance.

Next up the main event, Atlanta Alt metal royalty Sevendust take to the stage with very little fanfare apart from the obligatory roar from the hometown crowd and it was straight down to business kicking into “Dirty” from last year’s album “All I See Is War”. The set consisted mainly of older material however with “Home”, “Animosity” “Seasons” era as well as the first released self titled album in 1997 and with every live performance they seem to get better and stronger with every passing year. Lajon Witherspoon’s vocal delivery is unrivaled in my humble opinion, both extremely powerful soaring and emotionally captivating. A perfect example of this was the ever heart wrenching anthem and fan favorite “Angel’s Son” with other stand outs including “Shine”, “Thank You” and set closer “Face To Face”.

If you want to talk about top of the game drummers then please look no further than Morgan Rose. I really can’t come up with enough superlatives to try and explain his style and sheer energy along with John Connolly on guitars and Vince Hornsby on bass who also brought there A game. During the set LJ summed up the feeling within the room so eloquently by saying “this isn’t just a gig but rather a family reunion.

The band invest so much heart and soul into making a show so magical that in hindsight it’s why they have such a loyal fan base that hold so much of tonight’s set so close. When you come to a show, it’s no bullshit or ego trip, just a great time and judging by tonight’s crowd and reactions this was a stand alone moment in time. Just awesome Sevendust, Australia and New Zealand can’t wait for next time! I’m still on cloud 9.
