LIVE REVIEW: From The Jam – September 17th 2016

Capitol Theatre - Perth, Australia

Classic British punk / mod-revival act From The Jam hit Perth on their national tour of Australia on Saturday night, a spectacular show of rocking tunes and more from the legends of rock as they ended the tour on the western side of the country. Opening act were The High Leary’s who provided the support for the night.

Perth rockers The High Learys opened the show and brought out their brand of high energy rock and roll with a dab of psychedelic 60’s rock sounds to a crowd that was initially luke warm but soon won over with an energetic vibe that set the bar high for the night. Lead singer Jamie Turner made sure to play their cards right by mentioning the opening act as a way to get the audience in high spirits but in the end they didn’t have to, the crowd who by the end of their set filled the venue to the brim showed their appreciation for the openers.

Bruce Foxton and company bounced onto the stage showing no signs of a brutal touring schedule, a schedule that would bring artists half their age to their knees. A packed out house saw the UK legends rip it up and bring out their raucious guitar fueled music to the Perth crowd who at times felt like there were more Brits than Aussies which was hardly surprising given The Jam’s history and success in the UK.

Huge smiles and the sold-out Capitol was bursting wiith anticipation as the Clash’s “London Calling” played just before Foxton, Russell Hastings and Mike Randon (drums) came on – perfect intro to the band. The collective unit known as From The Jam sounded fresh and intense, not a lot of movement was seen early on in the show but you could tell the passion was still there as the set progressed through years of great songs.

We can’t imagine waiting another few more years for another tour as these guys rocked the house and gave the Perth fans something to remember until hopefully the next time. Let’s hope that it’s sooner rather than later!
