Tonight Badlands Bar played host to the deathcore giants Thy Art Is Murder and a slew of other top notch acts. Here is how the night went down.
First up to kick off tonight for the early punters was Perth based crew CONFORM, blending elements of electronic music with snarling riffs they came out of the gates like a raging bull. While the stage show itself was ok at best, no one in the room could fault passion and power that was brought to the table. It was simply breath taking. One stand out for me was a venemous cover of the Suicide Silence classic “Unanswered” which just seemed to ignite an already pumped up room and throw caution out the window with bodies seemly flying in every direction.
Next up to the plate Mandurah wrecking crew DAY BREAK storm onto the stage and let loose with their own brand of stomping hell fire. Tearing through a quick set, it was clear the band are on the brink of stepping up to next level status and here tonight was evidence that they are ones to watch for the future.
Next up GRAVEMIND took to the stage with a tour de force attitude, I would go as far as to say the band released one hell of an album this year in the form of “Conduit” and the newer tracks translated very well with the live audience. One of the stand outs for me was the track “Phantom Pain” and in terms of sound they were on point with out missing a single note. Front man Dylan Gillies Parsons had real and commanding stage presence that would put the fear of hell into anyone that stood before him. If you haven’t taken notice of this BAND then put simply you have been missing out.
Now last but by no means least. THY ART IS MURDER take a vice grip upon the now sea of bodies assembled in the club. Vocalist CJ McMahon in trade mark stage clothes sounded supreme and if I’m honest, this is the best that I have heard them period with tracks like “No Absolutions” and “The Purest Strain Of Hate” proving time and time again why they are the leading force within Australian death metal. Drumming beast Jesse Beahler was flawless and to watch him was an absolute master class in how a drummer moves, his dexterity would be matched by few. Now this was the last show for Thy Art and they have earned a well deserved rest, I for one will be excited to see what 2020 brings for the band. Take a bow boys, you’ve done yourselves and the rest of the Australian metal community very proud.
