The debate as to whether or not Rock is Dead, has finally been put to rest. Rock n Roll fans from around the world have proven that actions speak much louder than words, and have wholeheartedly demonstrated to everyone once a for all, that rock n roll is alive and well.
Rock on The Range, the largest music festival in North America just celebrated their 10 year anniversary with the fastest advanced sell out so far with over 120000 thousand fans in attendance. The festival has been growing and getting stronger every year. This year has been no exception. Fans lined up by the thousands early Friday morning to rock out to over 60 bands playing on three separate stages over the three day span.
This year the festival has been given awards of recognition from both Columbus Mayor and the City Council as well as a the Franklin County Board of County Commissioners. The commendations acknowledge the over $140 million in economic impact the festival has contributed to the city in 10 years.
The festival has been hosting the largest names in Rock. This year’s lineup headliners included Disturbed, Rob Zombie and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Monster Truck, Cane Hill and Sick Puppies opened up all three stages for the first day of the festival, getting the crowd prepped for a full three days of R’NR.
Disturbed closed out the show on Friday night playing a medley of cover songs, including Closer by NIN and invited Jacoby Shaddix form Papa Roach to lend his vocal skills to Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name of”. The bands most paramount single “Sound of Silence” had the crowd enthralled for the songs entirety. Thousands of cell phones and cigarette lighters illuminated the stadium with fans mesmerized by Draiman’s vocals.
Highlights captured here from The Rockpit included Avatar, Sixx A.M., Disturbed, Butcher Babies, Deftones, Ghost, Hellyeah, Lamb Of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeth, Rob Zombie and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
