There are always a few releases that we just don’t get time to review over the course of the year and before the floodgates open on 2020 there are a few I’d like to mention. Denman’s ‘Raw Deal’ is one of those. For the band, formed in 2016 by brothers Ben, and Dakota Denman, who had just moved to Nashville, the plan was simple – win over the Nashville music scene with old school hard rock and heavy metal. An EP and some high profile shows later here is the first full length release.
There’s a lot here to love if you like the harder end of the music of the 80’s but still hanker after plenty of melody and whilst openers like ‘Higher’ might be deceptively simple it’s the variety here that impresses most. It’s an album that takes you all the way from the Metallica-like ‘Down Come The Walls’ at the deep end to the melodic rock of tracks like ‘Another Day’ that dare I say it might even have a touch of Poison about it!
Well worth a shot.
