American Jetset - Saloon Whiskey Pop

Here’s a new name for me but a great band that conjure up images of The Sunset Strip in its heyday.

There’s a wonderful swing and groove to ‘Devil’s Canyon/Walking Contradiction’ that has you recalling the glory days of Sunset Strip and bands like Faster Pussycat when they were bluesier and less hard-edged. ‘Gold Nines’ that follows it has a similar stance but less swing and is more laid back, but works just as well and with the fall back to just drums and vocals again it recalls the peak of the Pussycat!

At really just six tracks long there’s a yearning for more here as the intro AC/DC riff turns into the nice and light sleazy rocker on ‘One More Time Around’ – it’s a song that has some cool laid back guitar and a nice summer vibe. By way of contrast there’s a low-key Country sheen to ‘Getaway Car,’ but it’s Country in the way that The Stones dabbled and it makes for a nice little song, if a little understated.

That leaves us with just two – ‘1000 Ghosts’ the fieriest rocker here which picks up the pace and gets those heads banging; and for ‘Never Be Goodbye’ the acoustics are out and we’re in kinda Poison territory or at least on the Sunset Strip circa ’88 with a refrain that won’t leave you.

I like it.

More please.
