RedHook return with defiant new single ‘Cure 4 Psycho’

Sydney-based alternative-rock trio RedHook have just unveiled their subversive new single ‘Cure 4 Psycho’ – produced by Stevie Knight (Trophy Eyes, Stand Atlantic, Yours Truly) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Hands Like Houses, Underoath).

Opening with angular guitars, chunking bass lines and hard-hitting drums, ‘Cure 4 Psycho’ is a rousing statement lead by the snarling vocals of lead singer Emmy Mack. “Sidney Prescott bitch, I’m in this for the sequel ” shrieks Mack in the song’s frenetic bridge, using wry humour and slasher movie imagery to explore the darker, more personal subject matter.

“’Cure 4 Psycho’ is written from the perspective of a survivor raising a defiant middle-finger to her would-be killer. Writing this song helped liberate me from an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship that I struggled for a long time to escape from,” Mack reflects.

“I also feel it’s important to note here that the use of the word ‘psycho’ is intended in the traditional sense of psychopathy, referring to someone who is incurably narcissistic, manipulative, predatory and devoid of empathy and remorse, in defiance of its popular use as a term for belittling emotional ex-partners, most commonly women” Emmy adds.

To coincide with the release, the band will perform a one-off double performance at La La La’s in Wollongong, with both sessions now SOLD OUT. Previously to the worldwide pandemic, the band toured relentlessly, including multiple headline Australian tours and a debut UK/European tour. This also included appearances at Download UK, Good Things, BIGSOUND and Halloween Hysteria 2019, as well as supporting the likes of The Amity Affliction, Sevendust, Hands Like Houses and Ocean Grove.

Previous releases have seen extensive support from Spotify, Apple Music, triple j (three singles added to full rotation) and triple j Unearthed, with the three-piece winning the Download Sydney triple j Unearthed competition. They’ve also received glowing support from worldwide tastemaker blogs Rock Sound (UK), Kerrang! (UK), Pilerats, Hysteria Magazine, HEAVY Mag and Don’t Bore Us, as well as hosting the ABC’s esteemed video program Rage, with multiple music videos being added to rotation.

In the coming weeks, RedHook will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘Cure 4 Psycho’.
