Apologies for the late review, mid pandemic I changed States and managed to get locked down in Melbourne leaving a pile of review material somewhere when I returned to NSW I completely forgot about as a result this little gem gets reviewed bout none months too late!
Sydney’s Metal masters return after a rather Thrash meets Death Metal debut EP with something that sounds s a lot more contemplative. Indeed you could well level accusations of Prog Metal at ‘Aspects of Dissonance’, with a side order of Death Metal to go.
Opener ‘Begin Simulation’ is loud and proud, full of growls and clean vocals that are a standout here and whilst it’s not telling the whole tale this is a decent representation of what is to come though the experimentation of ‘River of Sky’ with is ‘noise’ and opening piano which is stabbed by drums and guitar and whisked up into a satisfyingly Thrashy frenzy. It’s great stuff. But my highpoint would have to be the track ‘Future Gods’ which screaming right at you before falling onto a more melodic landscape. This is the sound of a band who know how to hit the sweet spot.
More accessible perhaps is single ‘Everything Lasts Forever’ the mildest of our remedies here. It’s a song to break you into the band and complex in its own way. Elsewhere the bass rules the rather quirky and heavy ‘Phthalo’ and you’ll be pummeled by the roaring ‘Wasted Signals’. It’s closer ‘Twilighlight Harbour’ though that rather like a dark mirror of the opener which outlined the potential – here defines it, great stuff!
7/10
