A ROCK AND ROLL LIFE: Myke Gray Interview (Shades of Gray, ex-Skin, ex-Jagged Edge)

The Final Live dates and a life in music

Myke Gray plays his final shows this British Summer billed as ‘MYKESTOCK’ – shows that will celebrate the music of his bands Skin, Jagged Edge, Red White & Blues, Schism and his latest project Shades of Grey. After three shows in Wolverhampton, Gravesend and Blackpool there’s one final performance at The Steelhouse Festival in Wales on 29th July. If you’re going to go out on a high then it’s not a bad way to wrap things up. Over the years Myke and his music have given so many people so much pleasure including myself. I can still remember seeing Jagged Edge way back in the day but for me it was the music of Skin that really knocked it out of the park for me. I still get goosebumps when I hear songs like ‘Tower of Strength’ and I travelled twice back from Australia just to catch them play (don’t tell him that though).

Over the last few years we’ve chatted a few times and I always laugh when I transcribe the interviews because he has a wicked sense of humour. I think that and his relentlessness and unwillingness to compromise are part of what makes his art so special. I’ve never put up a video interview with Myke before but after what may be this final one I thought I’d like to share the zoom with you all so you can see a bit of the man behind the music like I do. I know that he will make a success of whatever he chooses to do next, and he always has my number if he needs to discuss the football…
