Joe Perry called this concert “One of the best concerts of the year’ and afterwards Steven Tyler told press that "I don't know what I'm doing [next], but it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler, working on the brand of myself – Brand Tyler."
That of course is now part of the whole ‘Tyler quits’ story. What is interesting for me then is that my first Aerosmith concert may well be my last and quite possibly their last?
First up what I’d have to say about this concert is how well produced these things are. I imagine that Aerosmith normally put on a great show but the organisation of an event like this was amazing. The show itself was really good and I enjoyed most of the songs. I’m an older Aerosmith fan so the set list was pretty good. The boys looked pretty well tonight despite their recent brushes with ill health, well they do all except Steven who starts off high energy but looks completely drained not even half way in. then again it is in the mid 30s and pretty humid so how would you be?
For anyone that caught them on the US tour this year I guess you are pretty familiar with the set though I can’t recall both “I don’t want to miss a thing” and “Dream On’ both being played on earlier dates. I know that Digg will be upset that I got to hear his favourite live Aerosmith song – “Draw the Line” and he missed out this year! In fact that and the closing burst of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are the highlights for me. The band is so tight, and despite Steven flagging a bit, he’s certainly not going through the motions tonight.
The crowd is pretty wild throughout and the setting is great, the Marina here on Yas Island is so cool. All in all it’s a great night and pure look that I may have just witnessed the last ever concert by a great band.
