Fantasy MMORPGs, apparently, will rivet until online boy games are replaced by another, more popular form of entertainment. The concept is most often the same: a fairy-tale world, divided into two halves, light races against dark ones, intense neutrality is replaced by fierce conflicts, and skillful intrigues are replaced by open clashes. The new player joins the huge army of one side or the other as a warrior, magician or scout. In such projects, almost everything - the history of the universe, the inhabiting races, the combat system, the role-playing component - evokes a sense of deja vu. And, nevertheless, developers create more and more online products, peeping from their older brothers in the genre and compiling borrowed ones. For the sake of decency, one or two unique features are added to the resulting mixture and the dish is considered ready.

Developers Chronicles of Spellborn position their brainchild as a completely independent product, radically different from what we are used to seeing in MMORPGs. The player finds himself in a completely unusual world called Ancestor World. Once he survived a global catastrophe, as a result of which it began to resemble a giant sea with huge floating rocky fragments. It is on them that the descendants of the miraculous survivors of that cataclysm live. Almost a thousand years have passed since then, and a new race has appeared in the changed universe. They live, oddly enough, in harmony and even united into one state - the Enclave of the Five Sacrifices.

A gamer can make his character both a man and one of those strange creatures produced by the apocalypse. In any case, you will have to choose between the three main classes (the usual warrior, mage and thief), and later, upon reaching the sixth level, between their subtypes. The fighter transforms into a Bloodwarrior, Wrathguard, or Furyhammer, the thief transforms into Deathhand, Skinshifter, or Trickster, and the mage transforms into Ancestral, Void Seer, and Rune Mage. Each branch of the skill tree has its own specialization, advantages and disadvantages. Just remember: the class and subtype cannot be changed, the decision about them is made once and for all.

Let's take a warrior class as an example. Heroes whose "masters" have chosen this branch of skills have such unique skills as Break Defense (special blows that lower the enemy's defense), Charge (for a short period increases physical indicators), Piercing Shot (inflicting blows that pierce any armor on several targets at the same time). Becoming a Blood Warrior, the character acquires the ability to establish blood ties with allies or enemies (in the first case, he takes on a part of the damage received by his friends, in the second, he "redirects" a part of his own wounds to aggressive opponents). Champion knows how to summon the spirits of ancestors in the midst of a fight. And they won't let you down: the basic characteristics will be raised, or they will directly help. Furyhammer is generally not very fond of weapons and prefers to fight with his bare hands.

You start your journey to Ancestor World from the island of Deadspell Storm. As the story quests are completed (and the lion's share of the experience, by the way, you will get exactly from completing tasks, and not mindless meat grinders, regardless of how many creatures were killed), other rocky fragments floating in space will become available. Conquering new territories for the guild is where you will spend most of your time in Chronicles of Spellborn , be it PvE (player versus environment) or PvP (player versus player).

The creators of the project call their combat system revolutionary. Perhaps, for MMORPG its features are really new, but fans of ordinary role-playing boy games are unlikely to see something new there. Now the outcome of the collision is not decided by a simple comparison of the main indicators, much depends on the reaction of the person sitting at the computer, how he mastered the art of fencing, shooting and aimed throwing of fireballs. By the way, almost all skills can be combined with each other, as well as build whole combinations of their use in a certain sequence.

Unreal Engine 2.5 is used as the graphics base of the boy game, which means that there should be no problems with graphics. This thesis is also proved by numerous screenshots showing excellent models, high-quality textures and the original style of the picture as a whole.

Summarizing all of the above, we conclude: Chronicles of Spellborn resembles not so much an MMORPG as an ordinary role-playing boy game. Now it is difficult to say what the appearance of such a project on the market will lead to: perhaps the boy game will replenish the army of its fans with regular, "offline" gamers, perhaps - it will disappoint the seasoned "linemen". But its launch will definitely not go unnoticed.
